SCIAC Women's Tennis Championships: Day One
Recap |
|
Rain forced the suspension of activity during first-day action of the SCIAC Women's Tennis Championships Friday, but the wet weather didn't derail Redlands, CMS and Pomona-Pitzer, all of which were victorious in first round matches. Each of those top three seeds had easy wins in their respective openers. The Athenas defeated Whittier while the Bulldogs topped Caltech by respective 5-0 margins. The Sagehens bested tourney host La Verne, also by a 5-0 count. Fourth-seeded Occidental led fifth-seeded Cal Lutheran 4-2 when play was halted. The two teams will conclude their first round match at 8:30 am on Saturday. Second round matches--originally scheduled for 2 pm on Friday--will take place Saturday at 10 am. Final round matches are scheduled for Saturday at 3 pm. CMS awaits the Occidental-Cal Lutheran winner in the second round at the Pomona-Pitzer courts while Redlands battles Pomona-Pitzer in the second semifinal at CMS. In the consolation brackets, La Verne will face Caltech along with Whittier meeting the loser of the Oxy-Cal Lutheran matchup. Tournament matches are being played collectively on the campuses of the University of La Verne, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer. The championship match will take place at CMS. |
