CMS Wins 2006 SCIAC Women's Tennis Championship

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps closed out an unbeaten league season at the SCIAC Conference championships on Saturday defeating Pomona-Pitzer in the championship round.

The Athenas blanked the Sagehens 5-0 to win the tournament and capture the 2006 league title. CMS has either won or shared the conference championship each of the last 14 straight seasons! . CMS, which finished the conference regular season with a perfect 7-0 record, showed its dominance by not dropping a match in the entire tournament, going a combined 15-0 during the weekend against Whittier, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer.

The third-seeded Sagehens reached the finals by topping second seed Redlands 5-3 in the semifinals. Redlands rebounded to defeat Cal Lutheran 5-1 in the third-place match. In other action, Occidental defeated tourney host La Verne 5-1 for fifth place while Caltech beat Whittier 5-2 in the seventh-place match.
