Courtsey University of La Verne Sports Information
The University of La Verne will travel down the 57 freeway to face non-league rival Chapman University in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.
The Leopards and Panthers will meet Wednesday at the Hutton Center on the Chapman campus in Orange. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
The two squads will meet for the third time this season with Chapman taking the first two contests. The Panthers handed ULV its first loss of the season in an 83-66 triumph in La Verne on Nov. 27, and prevailed 68-65 over the Leopards in Orange on Jan. 23.
La Verne (19-6) earned an automatic berth into the tournament by winning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship. Chapman (22-5) was one of four Independent schools to earn a Pool ‘B' at-large selection into the 63-team field. The winner of the ULV-Chapman game will travel to Brownwood, Tex. to face No. 3 Howard Payne University (27-1) - the only team in the tournament with a first round bye.
Wednesday night's contest is also the second meeting between the two teams in postseason history. La Verne dropped a 70-46 decision to Chapman in NCAA first round action on March 5, 2003.
General admission tickets will be sold at the door for $6.
Students, seniors and child (12 and under) tickets will be
available for $3.
