La Verne Captures Women's Basketball SCIAC Crown
February 21, 2007

The University of La Verne earned a 78-68 road victory over Occidental College Tuesday night in Eagle Rock to claim its third SCIAC championship in school history.

The Leopards were paced by Trenecca Jones who poured in a career-high 37 points, finishing 18-of-20 (90%) from the free throw line against Occidental. She also made 9-of-15 field goals and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to post her 14th double-double of the season.  The 37 points from Jones is the most by any SCIAC player this season.

La Verne (18-6, 11-2 SCIAC) receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, which begins next week.

ULV's previous league titles in women's basketball occurred in 1990 and 2003.  It marks the second league title in five seasons for head coach Julie Kline, who guided the Leopards to the 2003 crown.
