La Verne Volleyball Finishes Second at NCAA Championship
The University of La Verne volleyball
team finished second at the NCAA Division III Championships held in
Bloomington, Illinois (Nov. 20-22) on the campus of Illinois
Wesleyan University.
La Verne fell to Emory University 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 17-25, 22-25)
in the championship match on November 22.
The Leopards reached the finals by defeating New Paltz State 3-0
(25-15, 15-16, 25-16) in the quarterfinals on November 20 before
topping #1 Juniata College 3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 13-25, 25-22, 17-15)
in the semifinals on Nov. 21.
Senior outside hitter Brianna Gonzales and junior middle blocker
Crista Jones were named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament
team.
La Verne concludes the season at 27-3, capturing its ninth
consecutive SCIAC crown along with the West Region championship en
route to a national runner-up finish.
