LA VERNE'S GONZALES & LINDSAY EARN AVCA ALL-AMERICA HONORS
A pair of La Verne volleyball players earned 2007 All-America honors as Brianna Gonzales was named First Team All-America while teammate Jodi Lindsay was selected as Second Team All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
A junior outside hitter from Whittier, Gonzales enjoyed a breakout season with the Leopards, earning SCIAC Player of the Year and All-West Region honors. Gonzales led ULV in kills with 429 (3.97 per game) and was second in digs with 392 (3.63). She posted a team best and career-high 36 kills against Washington University (MO) on Sept. 15. Gonzales excelled against nationally-ranked teams, posting season bests in kills against #4 Washington (36) and digs (25) against #2 Juniata, also on Sept. 15. In the NCAA West Region playoffs (Nov. 9-10), she collected 51 kills and 40 digs in her two matches against #9 Cal State East Bay and #20 Puget Sound.
Lindsay's selection marks her second appearance on the AVCA All-America squad after earning First Team honors in 2006. A senior from Alta Loma, Lindsay led the Leopard squad in hitting percentage (.328) and was second in kills with 366 (3.33 per game). Lindsay hit over .450 in seven matches this season, including a best of .682 (16 K, 1 E, 22 TA) against Chapman on Sept. 22. A three-time All-West Region and three-time First Team All-SCIAC selection, Lindsay tallied a season-high 21 kills in her final home match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 30.
