Whittier College Names New Head
Volleyball Coach
Whittier, Calif. -- Ali Oliver is the
latest addition to the Whittier College coaching staff as the new
head volleyball coach for the Poets. Oliver has been the head
coach at Cerritos College for two seasons, and led the Falcons to a
second place finish in the South Coast Conference last season.
Oliver began playing volleyball at San Gabriel High School
where she was a four-year letter winner. She went on to play
for Cerritos College and led the state in kills as a
freshman. Her junior season, she received a scholarship to
play at Southeastern Louisiana University. An injury forced
her to transfer once again, this time to Sonoma State, where she
was the starting outside hitter and team captain. She
graduated from Sonoma State in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in
Communications, and in 2003, returned to Sonoma to earn her
Master's degree in Kinesiology.
Oliver's coaching career got started during her freshman year of
college, when she was the head coach of the Huntington Beach
Volleyball Club's fourteen and under team. She has also had
extensive coaching experience at the junior high, high school, club
and collegiate levels at various schools.
"I am very excited to be coaching at Whittier." said Oliver.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to coach at a 4 year institution
and look forward to the upcoming season. I hope to finish in the
top 3 in conference this year and challenge for the conference
title within 2 seasons. I'm eager to see what my girls can do and
I'm looking forward to bringing in some new recruits to help make
Whittier volleyball successful."
