2007 NCAA Division III National Championships: Track & Field

SCIAC Track and Field athletes had banner performances at the 2007 NCAA Division III National Championships May 24-26 at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. Four conference athletes won five individual events to lead a contingent of 12 SCIAC athletes at the meet.

For the men, the University of Redlands had two individual national champions. Senior Nathan Adkins won the triple jump by bounding a personal best 50-2 (15.29m) in the fourth round to secure the win. Teammate Francis "Fritz" Nugent, a junior, tallied 7199 points to win the grueling 10-event, 2-day decathlon. Nugent's score is a personal best and is the #5 all-time mark in Division III history since a rule change altered scoring in 1985.

Pomona-Pitzer senior Will Leer won both the 1500m and 5000m to become the first-ever double-event winner in a single year for Pomona-Pitzer. Leer won the 1500m in 3:53.13 and the 5000m in 14:25.41 - both with a blistering finishing kick on the last lap of each race.

In men's team scoring, Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands each scored 20 points to tie each other and four other teams for 8th place. Occidental scored 6 points to tie for 39th overall.

In addition, Calderon sprinted 12.45 in the 100 meters to finish fourth in her heat, but didn't qualify for the event's final.

Whittier's Shuree Gangloff, a sophomore, threw the discus 139-5 (42.50m) in the third round to finish fifth and earn All-America honors. Occidental sophomore Kera Bartlett pole-vaulted a personal best 11-10.5 (3.62m) to tie for sixth and earn All-America honors.
