The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) men's tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over Trinity (Texas) in Saturday's NCAA Division III Championship Regional final and punched its ticket the national quarterfinals at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.
With the win, CMS improves to 30-3 overall and advances to the NCAA Quarterfinals where it will take on the winner of Chicago and Carnegie Mellon on Monday, May 21 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. Trinity concludes its campaign, 16-12 overall.
In doubles play, Trinity picked up its lone point of the contest on the number one court as the pair of Wilson Lambeth and Jordan Pitts downed Julian Gordy and Nikolai Parodi, 8-3. In No. 2 doubles, Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman earned an 8-3 win over Wilson Hamilton and Jace Akagi-Okuma, while Robert Liu and Daniel Park secured an 8-0 victory over Tilden Oliver and Lars Wiik in No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Parodi won a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Hamilton from the number one court, while Gordy eged Akagi-Okuma, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in No. 4 singles. Park helped the Stags clinch the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Oliver in No. 5 singles.
