Two Named USCA Men's Soccer Scholar All-West Region

Two men's soccer student-athletes from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) were recently named Scholar All-West Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association (USCA).

Senior goalkeeper Ben Mitchell of Pomona-Pitzer and senior defender Anton Russell of La Verne were the SCIAC's two men's soccer representatives to earn Scholar All-West Region honors. 

Mitchell, a Chemistry major boasting a 3.72 grade-point average (GPA), was named First Team All-SCIAC after leading Pomona-Pitzer to a 7-5-2 record in conference play during the 2017 regular season and the fourth seed in the league tournament, and an 8-8-2 overall ledger. Mitchell made 54 saves during the year, and a .730 save percentage. 

Russell was named Second Team All-SCIAC and helped lead La Verne to a 5-7-2 mark in SCIAC play, and an overall record of 8-8-2. The Claremont, Calif. native has tallied an impressive 3.81 GPA as a Business major, and helped the Leopards secure six clean sheets during the year, including three during league play.
