In the championship game of the first-ever Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Soccer
Postseason Tournament, the University of Redlands (17-3) held onto
a 1-0 lead for the hard-fought victory over rival
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (10-8) in front of 604 enthusiastic
fans at Farquhar Field.
Looking to avenge Monday's loss to the Stags, Redlands came out
with intensity and constant pressure. In the 18th
minute, sophomore midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA) blasted a
shot from 20 yards out, which ricocheted off of a CMS defender into
the net. Despite relentless effort by the Stags, the single
score held up for the exciting victory.
Both teams notched 10 shots, with the Bulldogs posting seven on
target and the Stags earning three. Senior goalkeeper Andy
Roraff (Highland, CA) gained his 10th shutout of the
season, which marks the 13th for the Bulldogs.
With the win, Redlands gains the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA
Championships. The postseason bracket will be announced
Monday at 8 a.m.
