Smith helped lead Chapman to a 2-0 week which featured a 84-57 win over UC Merced, and an 86-70 win over New Rochelle at the Purple & Gold Classic. For the week, Smith averaged 15.0 points per game, totaling 15 points in each of the two contests, while also collecting 10.0 rebounds per game (9 and 11 respectively). The first-year center also dished out three assists during the week in addition to shooting 64.7% from the floor.

Sponheim helped pace Redlands to a split in a competitive weekend at the Lee Fulmer Memorial Classic. First, he supplied 18 points and six assists in the Bulldogs’ 80-74 victory over UC Santa Cruz. He was near-perfect at the charity stripe (5-for-6) and hauled in three rebounds. He had an incredible 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in a stellar performance. In the second game against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Sponheim tied for first on the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and shot 46.2% from the field.

Davis lifted Whittier to a 92-66 win over SCIAC rival La Verne in the Poets’ first SCIAC contest of the 2017-18 regular season, netting 20 points and hauling in 11 rebounds. The senior guard from Ventura, Calif. also added three assists, two steals and blocked a shot in the win over the Leopards. Davis’s 20-point effort was highlighted by a 10-for-14 (71.4%) shooting effort from the field in 28 minutes of action, while nine of his 11 boards came on the defensive glass.

DeWitz was terrific in Occidental’s near upset of top-ranked Whitman as the Tigers fell, 73-69. DeWitz scored 16 points and hauled in 15 rebounds in addition to dishing out six assists and notching two steals. The junior forward from Oregon City, Ore. was 6-for-13 from the field (46.2%) and chipped in a 4-for-6 effort from the free throw line in Occidental’s losing effort. Eleven of DeWitz’s 15 boards came on the defensive side, while four came on the offensive glass.

Schneider helped pace Caltech to a 1-1 record between Dec. 18 and Jan. 2, including the Beavers’ first SCIAC victory of the season - an 86-82 win over Whittier. Schneider scored 22 points against the Poets and pulled in seven boards to go a long with an assist. In an 88-63 setback to nine-win Buena Vista, the first-year forward from Houston, Texas netted 14 points and grabbed 16 boards in defeat. For the week, Schneider shot 56% from the floor, 80% from three-point range, and averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest.

Koch helped secure a pair of league wins for Pomona-Pitzer as the junior guard averaged 18.5 points per game as the Sagehens picked up SCIAC wins over Caltech (67-55) and Cal Lutheran (91-55). Koch was an efficient, 70% from the field hitting 14-of-20 shots en route to 21 points against the Beavers, and 16 points against the Kingsmen. Koch added five of his six assists for the week in the win versus Cal Lutheran, while adding a steal against Caltech.

Moffett led Cal Lutheran to a 1-1 week in SCIAC play averaging 26.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Kingsmen fell in a hard-fought contest to CMS, 80-72, before topping Redlands, 93-84. Moffett netted a collegiate career-high 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting from the field against the Stags and was 4-for-6 from the free throw line, before netting 9-of-10 shots in the win over the Bulldogs en route to 22 points. The senior shot a sensational 84.6% from the field during the two-game stretch, totaling 52 points and nine boards.

Baines helped Occidental to a stellar, 2-0 week as the Tigers picked up conference road victories over Chapman (70-60) and Redlands (67-62). Baines averaged 19.5 points per game and eight rebounds per contest, netting 20 against the Bulldogs, while posting a double-double of 19 points and 10 boards against the Panthers. In addition, Baines chipped in a pair of blocks in both games, while dishing out an assist in each contest to help Occidental maintain the top spot in the SCIAC standings.

Kurihara directed Whittier to a pair of pivotal SCIAC wins during the week, notching a 78-76 win over Caltech, before he helped the Poets edge Redlands, 93-92. Kurihara averaged 14 points per game with 13 coming against the Beavers and 15 against the Bulldogs. He shot 44% from the field including 50% from behind the arc, while going 86% from the charity stripe. Against Redlands, he hit the game-tying bucket with 11 seconds to play before draining a game-winning three-pointer after the Bulldogs had regained the lead to lift the Poets to the win.

Morris of CMS helped the Stags to a pair of SCIAC victories over La Verne (72-53) and Occidental (70-60) giving CMS a 10-1 mark in league play and the lead in the conference standings. Morris shot 65.2% from the field including a 6-for-7 effort against the Tigers en route to 14 points. He added 22 points in the win over the Leopards and collected nine of his 13 rebounds in the win versus La Verne helping him average 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest during the week.

Kurihara of Whittier helped the Poets to a 1-1 week that saw Whittier fall to Chapman, 77-74 before earning a thrilling, 74-73 victory over Occidental. Against the Tigers, Kurihara swished a step-back jumper with 2.9 seconds left to tie the game, and then converted the ensuing free throw after being fouled to lift the Poets to the win. The senior guard finished with 20 points in the win over Occidental going 7-for-14 from the floor, 3-for-6 from three-point range and, 3-for-3 from the free throw line. For the week he averaged 18.0 points per game.

Scarlett of CMS averaged 20.0 points per game as the Stags notched SCIAC wins over Occidental (68-62), Whittier (85-65), and Chapman (72-63) to clinch the conference regular season title. Scarlett netted 15 points in the win over Occidental before pouring in 27 in the win over the Poets. He finished with 18 points in the win over the Panthers, registering a 39.1 field goal percentage for the week which included a 33.3% effort from three-point range and an 85% clip from the free throw line. He also added nine boards, four assists and four steals.
