Cal Lutheran, Redlands Golf Teams Selected for NCAA Championships

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (April 28) - The Cal Lutheran golf team learned Thursday that it was selected to participate in the 2005 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. In addition, Redlands and Texas Lutheran, as well as Dillon Gooch from Mary Hardin-Baylor, will represent the West region.

The championships will be held May 9-12 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, and will be hosted by Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission.

A total of 120 participants will compete. Three teams were selected from each of the nation's six regions and another five teams received at-large bids. In addition, five individuals were also invited.

It will be Cal Lutheran's eighth trip to the championships since joining the NCAA in 1992.

At last season's championships, the Kingsmen finished 15th of 23 teams at the PGA of Southern California Golf Club at Oak Valley in Beaumont, Calif.

Gustavus Adolphus is the reigning national champion and qualified for this year's event as well.

CLU's best postseason finish was a 14th-place showing in 1993.

Highlights of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships will be shown on CBS at 5 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, July 2. The CBS seasonal show will feature highlights of 17 different NCAA championships that took place during the spring.
