La Verne captures SCIAC baseball crown

The University of La Verne baseball team captured the 2008 SCIAC Championship by completing a doubleheader sweep over defending champ Pomona-Pitzer by scores of 7-4 and 13-3 Saturday in Claremont.  The Leopards blazed to the finish by winning their final eight conference games of the season

As the SCIAC Champion, La Verne gets the automatic berth to the NCAA West Regionals held May 14-18 in Abilene, Texas on the campus of McMurry University.

La Verne wins its 19th SCIAC baseball title in school history and the third under head coach Scott Winterburn, who also led ULV to conference crowns in 2004 and 2005.
