Last week, women coaches and administrators from all nine Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) institutions joined together on the campus of Pomona-Pitzer for a professional development session with Brave Enterprises. Each year, the SCIAC hosts a professional development session for women coaches and administrators.
The interactive session, hosted by Crista Samaras, used a combination of introspective and active experiences to give participants the opportunity to practice new thought patterns and behaviors. The coaches and administrators were introduced to the language around both fear and bravery, and engaged in exercises that aim on expressing your truth (both intra and interpersonally). Samaras - a graduate of Princeton University - was a standout women's lacrosse student-athlete, and was also a member of the US Women's Lacrosse team from 1995-2007.
"It was great having Crista Samaras from Brave Enterprises work closely with our coaches and administrators during the professional development session," stated SCIAC Executive Director Jenn Dubow. "Her strategies for teaching our coaches and administrators how to confront fear with bravery and meaningful action every day I think will be hugely beneficial moving forward."
