Several Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) men's and women's tennis teams, along with a combined 59 student-athletes, were recently honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their academic success in 2016-17.
As a team, schools had to register a minimum GPA of 3.20 for the 2016-17 academic year, while qualifying individuals had to maintain a minimum 3.50 GPA. Three men's teams and six women's teams were honored by the ITA for the academic team award. For the men, Pomona-Pitzer led SCIAC institutions with 10 selections, while the Sagehens and Caltech led the women's teams with seven recipients each.
The men's teams receiving team recognition were Caltech, CMS and Pomona-Pitzer, with Chapman, Occidental and Redlands placing individuals on the ITA Scholar-Athletes team. For the women, Caltech, Chapman, CMS, Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer, and Redlands each earned team praise.
